A-KON. Fun to say, fun to go to. I will be loading and unloading
for the convention today, and then working, working, working
it for the weekend. I hope we get a lot of spenders this weekend.
Me? I gots no money. 'Sides the only thing I'd want to get is
not out. They made a live-action Star Blazers movie that got
released in December in Japan. Or as they called it, 'Space Battleship
Yamato'. Can't find it on bit-torrent sites because it's just
getting released on DVD in Japan sometime this month. Last year,
I didn't buy anything neither.

Okay, then. Tomorrow will be the last page of the week. Again,
sorry about that. I tried to get an extra page done, but it just
couldn't happen. However, I did put four pages of Skip Week together
for next week. So I hope y'all enjoy that. And I don't know what
happened, but in May my readership leapt from 40 or so awesome
people to 174. I hope that wasn't a glitch and some of those
people come back and stay with me. I think I'm telling a good
story and we haven't begun to scratch the surface of what is
going to happen.
As a matter of fact, "The Mind of Morgathu" is only
the first of a trilogy of stories I have planned. And 'Mind'
is only into the first couple of chapters at that. So keep reading.

For a page with a bunch of simplicity, this took me the longest.
Oh, the foreground was done and some of the tree tops were finished
also. It was that damn Aetherial that I had the trouble with.
I went through a bunch of designs. Humanoid, bison-esque, Sable-like,
nothing really clicked. I knew roughly what I wanted, but unfortunately
it was too rough too be put down right away. Everytime I came
close too what you see here. But something nagged at me, and
I couldn't put my finger on it until my subconcious tapped me
on the back of my head.
I went to my animation section of my books. The design book
for the anime 'Princess Mononoke', specifically. There's a character
called the Night Walker. Towering over trees, inscrutable, mystical.
The Night Walker looks vaguely catfishy and more transulcent
though. And is animated. Every so often your imagination works
so hard, it gets tired and it sometimes gives you someone else's
good idea or design. As long as it happens only so often.

Montage. It's a montage! It's montage week here at Roam-thecomic!
Each day will be a slice of a day in the guy's journey.
Now my review of "X-Men: First Class." It is the
BEST X-Men movie so far. And quite possibly the best super-hero
movie, so far. It is an intelligent movie with interesting characters.
Matthew Vaughn has said he's always wanted to make a James Bond
movie, and he was supposed to make X-Men 3: The Last Stand. So
he fixed that problem by making both at the same time. Set in
the 60's, it sets up the Xavier-Magneto frenemy situation, with
style to spare. Vaughn and Jane Goodman give all of the characters
a chance to shine and grow. Everyone has personality and a reason
to be in the story. Mutant angst was downplayed, or giving a
real strong motivation. Once Banshee and Havoc start to master
their abilities they actually seem to enjoy using theirs.
Canon. A word that should be scrubbed from the english language.
Some people have screamed that word out as the reason they think
this movie will fail. "The original five X-Men aren't in
it." "The characters they are using are boring."
" It's not the comics continuity."
If y'all were so upset about Canon, why didn't any of y'all
complain of Wolverine in the first X-Men movie, when he shouldn't
have appeared until the 6th or 7th. And why the hell don't you,
about 20 minutes in to First Class, jump up and scream , 'What?
No Vanisher?! This movie sucks." (The Vanisher is a villain
that was in issue 2 of the original X-Men comic, by the by.)
An intelligent movie with interesting characters was made,
and y'all should all go see it.
Oh, and if people are upset about this movie violating the
movie continuity, what with Emma Frost appearing here, and in
the Wolverine movie. It helps if you realize their was no Wolverine
movie.
And on a personal note, next week's Skip Week will have new
stuff. Or at the very least new to y'all. I'm posting some of
the preliminary designs for "The Mind of Morgathu"
for your reading enjoyment. |
